Chapter 7 - THE PHOTOGRAPH THAT SHOULDN'T EXIST

Vincent's security chief, Gabriel Russo, arrived with a folder.

“Boss.”

Vincent looked up.

“What?”

“We found the original warehouse records.”

Gabriel placed several photographs on the desk.

Vincent studied them.

Then froze.

One image showed Salvatore Moretti standing beside Thomas Bennett.

Another showed Daniel.

And a third showed Margaret Moretti speaking to a man Vincent recognized.

His uncle, Carlo Moretti.

Carlo had died five years earlier.

Vincent frowned.

“What am I looking at?”

Gabriel hesitated.

“Your mother was at the warehouse that night.”

Vincent stared.

“No.”

Gabriel nodded.

“Yes.”

Vincent looked again.

Margaret stood near the loading dock.

Her expression was unmistakable.

She wasn't frightened.

She wasn't surprised.

She appeared to be giving instructions.

Vincent felt his pulse quicken.

He turned toward Gabriel.

“Find out what she knew.”

Gabriel nodded.

“And Claire?”

Vincent looked toward the empty chair across his desk.

For a moment, his expression broke.

Then he whispered:

“Leave her alone.”

Gabriel blinked.

“Boss?”

Vincent swallowed.

“She asked for a divorce.”

May you like

Silence.

“And after what I did yesterday, I don't have the right to send men after her.”
