Chapter 10 - THE TRUTH ABOUT SOPHIA REYNOLDS

Sophia hadn't known about the warehouse ambush.
But she had known something else.
Margaret had been paying her.
For months.
The arrangement was simple.
Keep Vincent emotionally occupied.
Encourage him to distance himself from Claire.
Make sure Claire never became involved in the family's financial affairs.
Sophia had accepted the money.
At first, she'd convinced herself it was harmless.
Then Margaret began demanding more.
More time.
More attention.
More public appearances.
The amusement park had been Margaret's idea.
Sophia admitted everything when investigators confronted her with financial records.
Vincent listened in silence.
Then asked:
“You knew Claire's father was dying?”
Sophia looked down.
“Yes.”
“And you still asked me to come?”
She began crying.
“I thought you'd choose me.”
Vincent stared.
Then whispered:
“I did.”
Sophia looked up hopefully.
