Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Coup

One week later, the executive boardroom on the 32nd floor of the Mendoza-Valdivia Mining Tower in the capital city was packed to capacity for an extraordinary general assembly of shareholders.

The morning headlines had dominated every major newspaper across South America:

‘The Poison Dynasty: Valdivia Matriarch and Heir Imprisoned for Attempted Murder and Multi-Million Dollar Embezzlement.’

‘Mendoza Heiress Rescued from Deathbed by Federal Task Force.’

Sitting around the thirty-foot mahogany conference table were twelve institutional directors, corporate investors, and banking executives. At the head of the table, Sebastián’s vacant executive chair stood as a stark reminder of the family's sudden downfall.

The double doors opened smoothly.

A collective murmur of astonishment rippled across the room.

Walking into the boardroom with effortless grace and absolute authority was Lucía Mendoza.

Though she walked with the aid of a polished silver-tipped cane, she looked breathtaking. She wore an immaculate, tailored emerald-green silk blazer that accentuated her recovering, radiant complexion. Her hair was styled in an elegant chignon, and her hazel eyes—once clouded by poison and despair—now burned with the fierce, unyielding brilliance of a true sovereign.

Beside her walked Gabriel Mendoza in his pristine naval dress uniform, accompanied by Chief Legal Counsel Dr. Julian Alvarez.

Lucía took her seat at the true head of the table. She laid her cane across the mahogany and met the gaze of every director in the room.

"Good morning, gentlemen," Lucía said, her voice clear, resonant, and completely devoid of tremor. "For six months, this board was led to believe that I was incapacitated and that the Mendoza mineral assets were being transferred to a shell holding company in Panama."

Director Ramirez, an elderly ally of the late Don Carlos, stood up with deep emotion. "Doña Lucía... we were deceived. Sebastián presented medical affidavits claiming you were suffering from degenerative dementia."

"Those medical affidavits were purchased with blood money, Director Ramirez," Lucía replied smoothly. She tapped the conference screen remote, illuminating the monitors with certified court orders.

"By decree of the Supreme Commercial Tribunal:

All voting shares, management contracts, and executive powers previously held by Sebastián Valdivia and Beatriz Valdivia have been permanently revoked and forfeited for criminal fraud.

The name 'Valdivia' is officially stripped from this enterprise. The corporation returns to its original, unblemished title: The Mendoza Global Mining & Logistics Syndicate.

I am resuming my constitutional role as President and Chief Executive Officer effective immediately."

Director Ramirez raised his hand without a second's hesitation. "I move to ratify Doña Lucía Mendoza as Executive Chairwoman with full corporate authority."

"Seconded!" shouted another director.

Every single hand around the table rose in unanimous, enthusiastic agreement.

Lucía looked out through the panoramic glass windows overlooking the sunlit city. The cage had been broken, the vultures were chained, and her father’s legacy was back in her hands.
