Chapter 1 - The Breach at the Valdivia Gates

The air in the room at the Valdivia mansion was stifling, heavy with the acrid scent of medication and the oppressive silence of illness. Lucía, bedridden with a pale face and trembling hands, struggled to catch her breath, ignoring the erratic pounding of her heart.
At the foot of the bed, Doña Beatriz—her mother-in-law—watched the scene not with compassion, but with the cold satisfaction of a predator knowing its prey is cornered. Beatriz, a woman whose fortune rested on foundations of disdain and calculated cruelty, seized upon Lucía’s weakness to launch her final attack. With a deliberately slow movement, she drew a document from her handbag—a notarized deed stripping Lucía of all legal rights to the family estate and even her own home, exploiting the young woman’s physical vulnerability after months of mysterious, debilitating decline.
Beatriz leaned close to Lucía’s ear, her voice dropping to an icy whisper laced with venom: "You are not merely dying of this frailty, my dear; today, you will suffer a social death. Sign, or I assure you, your parents will pay the debts you yourself have concealed."
With eyes clouded by pain and betrayal, Lucía felt her world collapsing; Beatriz wanted not just her money, but to erase her very existence from the dynasty.
Yet, at the precise moment the pen touched the paper, the sound of the main doors bursting open echoed through the house like a gunshot, cutting short the woman’s litany of cruelty.
The heavy oak panels of the master bedroom shuddered on their hinges. Heavy, synchronized tactical footsteps surged across the imported Italian marble hallways.
Beatriz snapped her head around, her diamond drop earrings swaying violently with her outrage. "What insolent servant dares disrupt—"
The bedroom door was kicked inward with thunderous force.
Standing in the threshold was Commander Gabriel Mendoza, flanked by six armed federal agents in tactical vests and a medical response team wheeling a portable life-support module. Gabriel was tall, broad-shouldered, and dressed in a dark command overcoat. His jaw was set in rigid granite, his hazel eyes burning with a lethal fury that caused the room's temperature to plummet.
"Gabriel..." Lucía breathed through cracked, parched lips, the heavy metal pen slipping from her numb fingers and tumbling across the duvet.
Doña Beatriz staggered backward, clutching her crocodile-skin handbag against her chest. "Gabriel Mendoza? You dare force entry into the private estate of the Valdivia family? I will have you court-martialed before nightfall!"
Gabriel did not even look at the matriarch. He strode across the Persian carpet in three long strides, pushing past Beatriz as though she were a ghost, and knelt beside the bed. His large, gloved hand gently cradled Lucía’s cold cheek.
"I have you, little sister," Gabriel whispered, his voice trembling with profound emotion. "The nightmare ends today."
He turned to the medical team. "Dr. Navarro! Execute the emergency medical airlift protocol. Full toxicological containment!"
Doña Beatriz shrieked, lunging forward to snatch the unsigned deed from the bedside table. "You cannot take her! She is under the private medical care of the Valdivia estate! She is my son's legal wife!"

Special Agent Valeria Sterling stepped between Beatriz and the bed, brandishing an emergency federal warrant stamped with the red wax seal of the Supreme Judicial Tribunal.
"Doña Beatriz Valdivia," Agent Sterling declared, her voice ringing with razor-sharp authority. "By order of the Special Anti-Corruption and Homicide Task Force, this property is an active crime scene. Step away from the patient, or you will be placed in iron restraints immediately."
