Chapter 10 - THE TRUTH BEHIND THE MANHATTAN VIDEO
The video had not been sent by Camille.
It had been sent by someone else.
A junior employee at Carlisle Group named Sophie Mercer.
Sophie had worked under Camille for eighteen months.
She had watched the affair unfold.
She had seen Nora attend company events alone while Evan and Camille disappeared together.
And she had finally decided someone needed to tell the truth.
When Nora learned Sophie's identity, she asked to meet her.
They sat in a quiet café.
Sophie looked terrified.
“I'm sorry.”
Nora shook her head.
“For what?”
“For sending it anonymously.”
Nora studied her.
“Why did you?”
Sophie looked down.
“Because my mother spent twenty years married to a man who cheated on her.”
Her voice trembled.
“And everyone knew except her.”
Nora swallowed.
Sophie continued.
“I couldn't watch it happen again.”
Nora reached across the table.
“Thank you.”
Sophie began crying.
Nora smiled sadly.
“You gave me something I didn't know I needed.”
May you like
“What?”
“The truth.”
