Chapter 6 - THE SECRET BENEATH THE WEDDING FLOWERS
The first major clue came from Lily.
She called Evelyn three days after the wedding.
“Evie, I found something.”
Evelyn sat upright.
“What?”
“Grant left a folder in the bridal suite.”
Evelyn frowned.
“What kind of folder?”
“Financial documents.”
Her stomach tightened.
Lily continued.
“I didn't understand them, but your name is on several pages.”
Evelyn closed her eyes.
“Don't touch anything else. Call Claire.”
Lily agreed.
The folder was delivered to Evelyn's attorney.
Inside were contracts connected to Mercer Coastal Design LLC.
Invoices.
Loan applications.
And several signatures that appeared to be Evelyn's.
But the most disturbing document was a partnership agreement.
It connected the company to a shipping contractor.
Moretti Maritime Services.
Evelyn stared at the name.
Vincent Moretti.
The man who had helped her escape.
The man who had promised she owed him nothing.
