Chapter 8 - The Federal Handcuffs

I stepped forward, opening the black folio and connecting an encrypted drive to the boardroom presentation terminal.
The four massive eighty-inch high-definition monitors along the walls flickered to life.
Displayed in crystal-clear 4K resolution was the synchronized evidence package:
The Bellini's Audio Recording: The crystal-clear recording captured by the restaurant’s partition microphone at 8:15 PM on the night of the crash, capturing Vanessa’s venomous laugh: “By midnight, I’ll be a grieving widow.”
The Garage Surveillance: Video footage timestamped 6:15 PM showing Julian’s private driver severing the hydraulic brake lines of the Maybach with a diamond saw.
The Financial Wiretaps: Certified banking logs showing $45 million siphoned from Moretti Global into Julian and Vanessa’s joint offshore accounts in Zurich.
The boardroom erupted into absolute, deafening pandemonium.
“You monstrous traitors!” Director Harrison yelled, slamming his fists onto the table.
Reporters frantically took photographs as Vanessa collapsed onto the carpet, weeping in hysterical, bitter terror.
Senior Special Agent Karen Vance marched onto the platform, holding unsealed federal arrest warrants.
“Julian Sterling, Vanessa Moretti,” Agent Vance announced with chilling authority. “You are under arrest for Attempted First-Degree Murder, Premeditated Conspiracy to Commit Capital Homicide, Corporate Embezzlement, and Interstate Wire Fraud under the RICO Act.”
Two federal marshals pinned Julian face-down onto the marble table, clicking heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
“Dante! Please!” Julian sobbed, tears and sweat dripping onto the wood. “It was Vanessa’s idea! She manipulated me! She promised me the company! Dante, we were brothers!”
Dante looked down at the man he had called a friend for fifteen years with cold, unyielding disgust.

“Brothers don't cut brake lines, Julian,” Dante said softly.
Vanessa was hauled to her feet in iron chains, her designer dress wrinkled, screaming curses as marshals dragged both convicts down the central corridor under the blinding flashbulbs of fifty international news cameras.
