Chapter 8 - The Interrogation at the Marina

================================================================================
On Friday afternoon, Julian Richardson arrived at the Sovereign Trust legal offices in downtown Boston, begging for an emergency meeting with the board.
He sat in the soundproof visitor suite, wearing a wrinkled, off-the-rack suit, gaunt and dark-eyed from sleepless nights in a suburban motel.
The double doors opened, and Arthur Vance walked in, accompanied by Senior Investigator Marcus Cole.
Julian jumped to his feet, his hands trembling. “Mr. Vance! Where is Sienna? Please... I need two minutes with her! Just two minutes! I can explain everything! I love her!”
Arthur Vance sat down at the head of the conference table, opening a manila folder with surgical precision.
“Mr. Richardson,” Arthur began, his voice ice-cold. “Madam President Sterling has zero interest in hearing your romantic fabrications. But more importantly, we are here to present the preliminary findings of your personal embezzlement audit.”
Julian froze. “Embezzlement...?”
Arthur tapped the screen. “Over fourteen months, you submitted twenty-eight falsified vendor invoices through Rowan Street Coffee’s supply chain, diverting municipal development funds into your private lifestyle accounts. You deliberately exploited Sienna’s humble management style to steal from the very charity she built.”
Julian’s knees buckled. He collapsed back into his chair, burying his face in his hands.
“I was drowning, Mr. Vance...” Julian sobbed. “My father was demanding five thousand dollars a month for the country club fees! He said if I didn't keep up appearances, our family would be blacklisted! I thought Sienna had money to spare!”
“Sienna’s wealth is dedicated to lifting people out of poverty, Mr. Richardson,” Arthur stated ruthlessly. “Not to subsidizing the vanity of a coward who stands by while his mother assaults women on boats.”
Arthur slid a legal document across the table.
“Here are your terms of non-prosecution for the embezzlement count:
Complete, unreserved surrender of all personal equity in Richardson Maritime.
Mandatory wage garnishment of fifty percent of all future earnings until the $420,000 restitution is satisfied.
A permanent lifetime restraining order barring you and your mother from coming within one thousand yards of Sienna Sterling, Rowan Street Coffee, or any Sovereign Trust property.”

Julian looked at the pen. With trembling, broken fingers, he signed every single page, forfeiting his pride, his social status, and his freedom with a few strokes of black ink.
