Chapter 3 - The Megaphone and the Sovereign Seal

================================================================================

The silence on the yacht was so absolute that you could hear the Atlantic waves slapping against the fiberglass hull.

Eleanor Richardson’s mouth fell open, her eyes darting between the armed Coast Guard officers boarding the aft deck and the woman she had just shoved against the railing.

“Madam... President?” Eleanor squeaked, her voice cracking in pure, unadulterated disbelief.

Charles stood paralyzed on the mahogany bridge ladder, clutching his chest. “Sovereign Trust...? Arthur Vance? What is the meaning of this charade?!”

Four armed Coast Guard boarding officers secured the stern line while Arthur Vance stepped across the gangway onto the main deck, followed by two forensic auditors and Senior Detective Marcus Cole of the Financial Crimes Task Force.

Arthur strode up the teak stairs, completely bypassing Charles and Eleanor as if they were invisible, and stopped directly in front of me. He snapped open the gold-embossed portfolio and presented a gold Montblanc pen.

“Madam President Sterling,” Arthur addressed me with total, professional gravity. “At 2:00 PM today, Richardson Maritime Enterprises defaulted on its thirty-million-dollar syndicated maritime liquidity facility. Furthermore, forensic accounting has uncovered that Charles Richardson forged collateral assignments on this vessel to secure private lines of credit.”

Julian scrambled off his lounger, removing his mirrored sunglasses with trembling hands. His face had turned the color of wet chalk.

“Sienna...?” Julian stammered, taking a hesitant step toward me. “Sterling? You’re... you’re Sienna Sterling? The heiress to Sovereign Trust? The private equity fund that owns the waterfront district?”

I looked at Julian. The charming, lazy smile that had amused me for eight months was completely gone, replaced by the naked, pathetic terror of a boy who realized the kingdom he bragged about was made of cardboard.

“You thought my counter shifts at Rowan Street were cute, didn't you, Julian?” I said, my voice cutting through the salty air like a razor. “You thought I was a harmless, penniless girl who would sit quietly while your mother dumped drinks on my dress and your father bragged about boats he couldn't afford.”

“Sienna, I was going to say something!” Julian pleaded frantically, reaching for my arm. “I was just trying to keep the peace between you and my parents! You know how my mother is!”

“You watched her shove me toward the water, Julian,” I said, stepping back so his fingers grasped only thin air. “You didn't move a muscle until the blue lights appeared.”

I took the gold pen from Arthur’s hand and signed my name across the primary seizure decree with three sharp, definitive strokes.

“Arthur,” I said.

“Yes, Madam President?”
