Chapter 4 - The Boyfriend’s Dropped Mask

================================================================================

The moment my signature touched the parchment, the veneer of high-society politeness shattered across the yacht.

Eleanor rushed forward, her diamond bracelets clattering frantically as she tried to drop to her knees in front of me.

“Sienna! Darling!” Eleanor sobbed, her aristocratic composure dissolving into hysterical begging. “It was a joke! A harmless party prank! You know how champagne makes people dramatic! I’ve always adored you for Julian! I told Charles just this morning that you were the most grounded girl he had ever brought home!”

“You called me trash forty-five seconds ago, Eleanor,” I replied, looking down at the woman who had tried to throw me into the sea. “You told your guests that service workers belong below deck.”

“I was stressed!” she wailed, tears smearing her expensive eyeliner. “We’ve had cash flow problems with the European terminals! Please, don't take our home! Don't take the yacht!”

Charles Richardson lunged toward Arthur Vance, brandishing a trembling finger. “Vance! This is an unlawful commercial ambush! I have a personal relationship with the board of governors! I demand forty-eight hours to refinance through my offshore partners!”

Detective Marcus Cole stepped between Charles and Arthur, displaying his gold badge and an unsealed federal warrant.

“Mr. Richardson,” Detective Cole announced coldly. “Your 'offshore partners' are three shell corporations registered in Belize that were liquidated by federal regulators yesterday morning for illegal money laundering and bank fraud. You don't have forty-eight hours. You have sixty seconds to step off this bridge before you are placed in federal custody.”

Julian turned on his father with sudden, venomous fury.

“You lied to me!” Julian screamed, shoving his father against the bulkhead. “You told me the family trust was worth fifty million! You told me the Sovereign Trust loans were handled! I spent the last eight months wining and dining investors while you were drowning in bankruptcy!”

“Shut up, you ungrateful parasite!” Charles roared back, swinging an arm at his son. “Who do you think paid for your sports cars and your country club tabs?! I did it to keep you looking like a winner!”

The wealthy guests—the Van Dorns, the Hendersons, and the socialites who had laughed when martini was poured on my dress—were already scrambling toward the Coast Guard transfer tender, whispering in absolute disgust, desperate to distance themselves from the radioactive wreckage of the Richardson name.

I turned my back on the family, walking to the bow of the vessel to look out over the open ocean.

The storm had arrived. And the Richardson dynasty was sinking without a life vest.
