Chapter 9 - The Federal Gavel of Retribution

Brianna collapsed onto the floor, screaming hysterically, tearing at her hair. "My salon! My car! Nathan, you destroyed my life!"
"You destroyed Lucy's life for eleven months, Brianna," I replied coldly. "You laughed while my sick wife starved in a shed."
Detective Stone stepped forward, pulling heavy steel handcuffs from his tactical belt.
"Theresa Vance, Brianna Vance," Detective Stone announced with chilling authority. "You are both under arrest for Criminal Endangerment of a Vulnerable Dependent Adult, Grand Larceny, Fiduciary Embezzlement, and Scheme to Defraud under Ohio Revised Code."
Two female deputies pinned Theresa’s arms behind her back, snapping the cold iron cuffs shut around her wrists.
"Nathan! I am your mother!" Theresa screamed, thrashing against the officers as tears ruined her heavy makeup. "You can't do this to me! You owe me your life! Frank, help me!"
Uncle Frank looked away in disgust, shaking his head. "You're a disgrace to our family, Theresa. You starved a sick girl."
As the deputies hauled Theresa and Brianna out the front door in heavy chains, under the flashing red and blue lights of three squad cruisers, Julian Hayes handed the eviction order to the county bailiff.
"The locks on 442 Maplewood Drive are re-keyed effective immediately," Julian stated. "All personal effects of the defendants will be auctioned to satisfy medical restitution judgments."
I turned, walked out of the house into the cool evening air, and never looked back.
Six months later, Courtroom 3B of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas delivered the final sentences:
Theresa Vance: Sentenced to eight years at the Ohio Reformatory for Women without eligibility for early parole.

Brianna Vance: Sentenced to five years in state correctional custody, followed by mandatory financial restitution of $45,000.
Justice was complete, absolute, and unshakeable.
