Chapter 7 - The Family Feast of Deceit

At 6:30 PM, the Maplewood house was filled with twenty extended family members—uncles, aunts, cousins, and neighbors.

A catered buffet of roasted prime rib, imported wines, and gourmet appetizers covered the dining table. Theresa and Brianna moved through the crowd like queens holding court, bragging loudly about Nathan’s corporate heroism in Canada and their upcoming multi-million-dollar business expansions.

"Yes, Frank!" Theresa boasted to my uncle, sipping vintage Merlot. "Nathan is transferring the entire million-dollar trust into my private account tonight! We’re building a two-story addition to the house and opening Brianna’s second salon in Dublin!"

At 7:15 PM, the front door opened.

I walked into the living room, dressed in a sharp black suit and tie, holding a leather portfolio.

Beside me walked Julian Hayes and Senior Detective Marcus Stone of the County Sheriff’s Financial Crimes Division, accompanied by two uniformed deputies.

The room fell into an immediate, curious silence.

Theresa hurried over, holding out a glass of champagne with a wide, triumphant smile. "Nathan! Darling! You brought guests! Everyone, raise your glasses to my brilliant son!"

"Don't drink just yet, everyone," I announced, my voice carrying effortlessly across the vaulted ceiling. "Before we toast, there is a video presentation I want the entire family to see regarding how our wealth was built over the last four years."

Brianna clapped excitedly. "Oh! Is it the video from the Canadian engineering firm?!"

Julian Hayes stepped to the large 75-inch smart television above the fireplace, plugging an encrypted USB drive into the terminal.

The screen illuminated with crystal-clear high-definition footage.
