Chapter 9 - THE HOUSE HER MOTHER NEVER SOLD

The Evanston property stood on a quiet street lined with old trees.

Ara hadn't visited it since childhood.

Her mother had called it Rosehaven.

A narrow brick house with a blue front door and a garden that bloomed wildly every June.

Ara believed it had been sold years ago.

Now Miriam handed her the key.

“It still belongs to the trust.”

Ara stared.

“My mother kept it?”

Miriam nodded.

“Yes.”

Ara stepped inside.

The rooms smelled of dust and old wood.

Sunlight fell across the floor.

In the kitchen, she found a small ceramic bowl.

Blue flowers painted around the rim.

She remembered it.

Her mother used to keep lemons in it.

Ara picked it up.

Then began crying.

Not because she was sad.

Because something she'd believed lost had been waiting for her all along.

Lucien stood in the doorway.

He didn't approach.

Didn't interrupt.

Just waited.

Ara looked at him.

“It's beautiful.”

He smiled.

“Yes.”

She looked around.

“I think I want to live here.”

May you like

Lucien nodded.

“Then you should.”
