Chapter 4 - THE MAN WHO HAD BEEN WATCHING THE WRONG DOOR

Ara stared at Lucien.

“You were parked outside my house for seventeen minutes.”

He nodded.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

He hesitated.

“I intended to speak with you.”

“About the trust?”

“Yes.”

“Then why didn't you knock?”

Lucien looked toward the window.

“Because I saw your husband arguing with you.”

Ara's stomach tightened.

“You could see inside?”

“Only through the front windows.”

She folded her arms.

“And you waited?”

He nodded.

“I wasn't going to enter your home uninvited.”

Ara looked down.

For a moment, she didn't know whether to feel grateful or angry.

Then she asked:

“Were you following me?”

Lucien met her eyes.

“No.”

She studied him.

He continued:

“I had an appointment scheduled with your attorney tomorrow. Tonight I came because the documents suggested the transfers were accelerating.”

Ara frowned.

“What transfers?”

Lucien opened the envelope.

Inside were copies of financial records.

Property deeds.

Trust statements.

And a signature.

Her signature.

Ara stared.

“I didn't sign this.”

Lucien nodded.

“I know.”

Her stomach dropped.

May you like

Because someone had been using her name to move money.

And the person with access to her documents was the man who had just locked her outside in the snow.
