Chapter 13 - THE WOMAN WHO REFUSED TO DISAPPEAR

Callum attempted to contact Ara after the divorce proceedings began.
He sent flowers.
Letters.
Messages.
Then apologies.
Ara didn't respond.
Instead, she focused on her work.
Her first major event under the new company was a fundraiser for a community arts center.
Three hundred guests.
A modest budget.
And a team that respected her.
Ara coordinated every detail.
The seating.
The lighting.
The caterers.
The volunteers.
When the event ended, the director hugged her.
“You were extraordinary.”
Ara smiled.
“Thank you.”
For years, she'd believed success meant keeping someone else happy.
Now she understood it meant building a life she could recognize as her own.
Lucien attended the fundraiser.
He stood near the back.
Watching.
When Ara approached, he smiled.
“You were magnificent.”
She laughed.
“I rented chairs.”
Lucien smiled.
“Three hundred of them.”
Ara laughed harder.
May you like
Then kissed him.
And for the first time, she knew that her work was nothing to apologize for.
