Chapter 8 - THE PHOTOGRAPH FROM PIER SEVENTEEN

The investigation into Sterling Medical Distribution expanded.
An internal audit identified irregular vendor payments.
Several invoices referenced shipments through Pier Seventeen.
A waterfront facility partly owned by a company associated with Victor's investments.
Harper's stomach tightened.
She showed the findings to the independent auditors.
They requested shipping records.
And discovered that some shipments had never arrived.
Yet payments had been approved.
The records suggested a possible fraud scheme involving Sterling executives and outside vendors.
Then an anonymous envelope arrived at Harper's office.
Inside was a photograph.
A nighttime image of Pier Seventeen.
Three men stood beside a shipping container.
One was Graham Hayes.
Another was a Sterling executive.
The third was a man Harper recognized from Victor's old family photographs.
His former operations chief.
Harper stared.

Then called Victor.
“We need to talk.”
