Chapter 10 - THE TRUTH ABOUT VICTOR'S FATHER
The photograph from Pier Seventeen led investigators toward an old network of companies.
Several had been created during Victor's father's lifetime.
Some were legitimate.
Others appeared to have been used for questionable transactions.
Victor ordered an independent forensic review of the businesses under his control.
The results were devastating.
His former operations chief had maintained hidden relationships with several outside companies.
Some transactions continued after Victor began restructuring the organization.
Victor stared at the findings.
For years, he'd believed he was cleaning up his father's empire.
Now he understood that parts of the old system had survived beneath the surface.
Harper sat beside him.
“Are you okay?”
He shook his head.
“No.”
She took his hand.
Victor looked at her.
“My father taught me how to win.”
He swallowed.
“But never how to be decent.”
Harper's eyes filled.
She squeezed his fingers.
“Then learn.”
Victor stared.

She smiled softly.
“You've already started.”
