Chapter 11 - THE WOMAN WHO REFUSED TO BE A BARGAINING CHIP
Graham Hayes attempted to negotiate.
Through attorneys, he offered information about the Sterling transactions in exchange for favorable treatment in an unrelated business dispute.
Victor refused.
Harper was furious when she learned about the proposal.
“He thinks everything can be traded.”
Victor nodded.
“Apparently.”
She looked at him.
“Even people.”
His expression darkened.
Harper continued:
“Derek treated me like an investment that stopped paying dividends.”
She swallowed.
“Graham treats everyone like leverage.”
Victor took her hand.
“And you?”
Harper looked up.
“What about me?”
He smiled faintly.
“You're the only person I've ever met who walked into my life and refused to negotiate her dignity.”
Tears filled her eyes.
She laughed softly.
“That's a very dramatic compliment.”
Victor smiled.
“I'm a dramatic man.”
Harper leaned forward.
Kissed him.
