Chapter 7 - The Interrogation Under Strobe Lights

Within thirty minutes, the Fifth Avenue penthouse was cleared of the traitors.
Down on the street below, flashing red and blue strobe lights painted the limestone facade of Vance Tower as news camera crews gathered to film Victoria Vance and Craig Miller being escorted into the back of police cruisers in heavy steel handcuffs.
Upstairs, the quiet warmth of the home settled back in.
Mrs. Gable brought out a fresh pot of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows, setting a steaming mug in front of Ethan and another in front of me.
Alexander sat down at the table between us. The fierce corporate titan had vanished, replaced by a man looking at the two children before him with boundless, tender resolve.
“Lily,” Alexander said softly, taking my small hand in his. “I had my private legal team look into your family’s background this morning.”
My breath caught. “Did I do something wrong?”
“Never,” Alexander smiled, squeezing my fingers gently. “We found your father’s medical files and the eviction records from your old apartment in Brooklyn. Your father, Thomas Foster, was a decorated veteran and a master carpenter who worked on the restoration of this very building ten years ago.”
Tears gathered in my eyes. “He always talked about the beautiful glass towers in Manhattan... he said one day we’d see the view from the top.”
“He was an honorable man, Lily,” Alexander said, his voice rich with warmth. “And he raised an extraordinary daughter. Today, the Vance Family Legal Trust settled all outstanding medical liens on your father’s name. His memory is completely cleared.”
Ethan reached across the table, tugging on Alexander’s sleeve. “Dad... remember what you promised in the park?”
Alexander looked at his son, then looked at me, a soft, profound smile touching his lips.
May you like
“I remember, Ethan,” Alexander replied. “And a Vance never breaks a promise.”
