Chapter 6 - The Midnight Blueprint Theft

================================================================================

On Thursday night at 11:45 PM, the Blackwell & Reed corporate tower was deserted.

The cleaning crew had finished their rounds, and the ambient office lighting was dimmed to an eerie, electric blue glow.

Victor Vance used a cloned administrative security keycard to enter the 42nd-floor design studio. Wearing black leather gloves, he walked directly to my workstation, inserted the encrypted drive into my master terminal, and executed a scripted file transfer directly to the dummy offshore server registered in the Cayman Islands.

To make the framing airtight, Victor opened my locked desk drawer with a slim lockpick, slipped three forged promissory notes and a printed bank confirmation slip beneath my sketchbooks, and locked the drawer back up.

He smirked, adjusting his silk tie in the reflection of the glass monitor. “Checkmate, Elena.”

He turned and walked down the corridor toward the elevators, whistling softly under his breath.

What Victor Vance failed to realize in his supreme arrogance was that three days earlier, Adrian had authorized a complete security infrastructure overhaul of the creative wing following his internal audit of Victor's department.

Directly above my desk, hidden inside the decorative chrome trim of the architectural light fixture, an ultra-high-definition 4K optical sensor with synchronized audio had recorded every single second of Victor’s actions.

The timestamp, the keystrokes, the physical placement of the forged papers, and the clear reflection of Victor’s face were instantly transmitted to an encrypted private server located inside Adrian’s personal residence.

Across town in his penthouse, Adrian sat at his study desk, watching the live surveillance stream with a glass of Scotch in hand.

His jaw set into hard granite. He tapped his phone and dialed his private chief investigator, Marcus Cole.

“Marcus,” Adrian commanded in a voice colder than the winter Hudson. “Coordinate with the District Attorney’s Corporate Fraud Task Force. The trap is sprung. We execute at 9:00 AM sharp.”
