Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Disgrace

At 2:00 PM on Wednesday, the executive board of Vance Logistics & Trade convened an extraordinary shareholder assembly in the downtown corporate tower.

Daniel, who had been granted a temporary four-hour administrative furlough under armed federal escort to address corporate liabilities, walked into the boardroom in a plain grey jumpsuit and steel ankle chains.

Sitting at the head of the forty-foot glass table was not his corporate allies.

Sitting there, via a high-definition encrypted video link directly from the private medical pavilion, was me.

I wore a comfortable silk hospital robe, my posture straight, my eyes radiating absolute, untouchable authority. Flanking my feed were Julian Hayes and the Chairman of the State Bar Association.

“Good afternoon, gentlemen,” I spoke through the digital audio system. “As sole executor of the Vance Irrevocable Living Trust and majority holder of the underlying commercial bonds, I move for the immediate, permanent removal of Daniel Vance from all corporate offices.”

Daniel scrambled to the microphone, his chained hands shaking violently. “Board members! You can’t listen to her! She’s incapacitated! She’s hospitalized!”

“I am hospitalized because your mother poured boiling oil on my back with your blessing, Daniel,” I answered, my voice carrying effortless, deadly precision.

Julian Hayes presented the corporate forensic audit: $2.4 million in unauthorized withdrawals routed to private sports gambling bookmakers and offshore shell companies.

The board members raised their hands in unanimous consent.

“Motion carries,” the corporate secretary recorded. “Daniel Vance is terminated with cause. All executive stock options are declared null and void.”

Daniel buried his face in his hands, groaning in total, humiliating defeat as the federal marshals pulled him away from the podium.
