Chapter 5 - THE WOMAN WHO REFUSED TO DISAPPEAR

Amelia left Julian's apartment that afternoon.
She took her passport.
Her laptop.
A suitcase.
And the small silver necklace Rose had given her for her thirtieth birthday.
She didn't tell Julian where she was going.
Instead, she checked into a hotel under her own name and contacted a lawyer recommended by a friend.
She also called the detective who had handled Rose's disappearance.
Detective Hannah Brooks listened carefully.
When Amelia mentioned Julian's connection to the warehouse, the detective became quiet.
“Are you certain?”
“I have a name and a company. I need you to verify it.”
Hannah agreed.
Then she asked:
“Amelia, are you somewhere safe?”
“Yes.”
“Good. Stay there tonight.”
Amelia hung up.
For the first time in eleven months, she felt something stronger than grief.
Purpose.
Rose had not simply vanished.
