Rose returned to Boston under police protection.
Amelia met her at a secure location.
For a moment, neither sister moved.
Then Amelia ran.
She wrapped her arms around Rose.
They held each other and cried.
Rose whispered:
“I'm sorry.”
Amelia shook her head.
“No.”
“I wanted to come home.”
“I know.”
Rose clung to her.
“I was scared.”
Amelia held her tighter.
“You're here now.”
Later, Rose explained what had happened.
She had discovered evidence of illegal shipments moving through the warehouse.
Julian was involved.
When she confronted him, he threatened her.
She escaped with copies of certain records but feared returning home because Julian had access to her family and personal information.
With help from an acquaintance, she hid in Vermont while trying to find a safe way to contact authorities.
