Chapter 4 - THE PHOTOGRAPH CALEB SHOULD NEVER HAVE TAKEN

Two days later, a package arrived at the restoration shop.
No return address.
Inside was a photograph.
Naomi standing beside Damian at a charity gala.
Someone had drawn a red circle around her face.
On the back were five words.
He doesn't know what you have.
Naomi stared.
Then checked the envelope again.
A small brass key fell into her palm.
She recognized it.
Her father's old storage unit.
Her father had died eighteen months earlier.
He had been a carpenter and furniture restorer, a quiet man who loved antique wood and old jazz records.
Before his death, he'd told Naomi there were some things in the storage unit she should never throw away.
She had assumed he meant tools.
Now she wasn't sure.
Damian arrived twenty minutes later.
Naomi showed him the key.
He stared.
“Where did you get this?”
“Caleb sent it.”
Damian's expression changed.
“Your father had a storage unit?”
She nodded.
“Near the river.”
He looked at Enzo.
“Find out who has accessed it recently.”
Naomi crossed her arms.
“I'm coming.”
Damian looked at her.
“It may not be safe.”
“It's my father's property.”
He hesitated.
Then nodded.
“All right.”
The storage unit smelled of sawdust and old paper.
Inside were wooden crates.
Tools.
Furniture pieces.
And a locked metal cabinet.
Naomi opened it with the brass key.
Inside was a ledger.
She turned the first page.
Then froze.
Names.
Dates.
Payments.
And a company she recognized immediately.
Russo Maritime Logistics.
Naomi looked at Damian.
He had gone completely still.
“What is this?”
May you like
He swallowed.
Then said, “Evidence.”
