Chapter 13 - THE TRUTH BENEATH THE RESTORATION SHOP
The final clue was hidden inside the antique desk Naomi had been restoring.
Her father had built a false compartment beneath one drawer.
Inside was a small flash drive.
Naomi stared.
Then called Rebecca.
The files contained scanned invoices.
Correspondence.
And a recorded statement from her father.
In the recording, he explained that he'd discovered irregular shipments connected to Victor Russo's operation.
He had kept copies because he feared the evidence would disappear.
Naomi listened through tears.
Her father's voice filled the room.
Naomi, if you're hearing this, I hope you're safe.
I never wanted you involved in any of this.
But I want you to know that I tried to do the right thing.
Naomi pressed her hand over her mouth.
The recording ended.
For a long moment, she couldn't move.
Then she whispered:
“Dad.”
Damian stood beside her.
He didn't touch her.
He waited.

Finally, Naomi reached for his hand.
And he held it.
