Chapter 5 - THE MISTRESS WHO WANTED EVERYTHING

Vanessa arrived at the Moretti mansion carrying three suitcases.
Her son, Oliver, walked beside her.
Alexander stood in the foyer.
He looked exhausted.
Vanessa smiled.
“Darling.”
She approached.
He didn't move.
Her smile faltered.
“What's wrong?”
Alexander looked at her.
“Claire is gone.”
Vanessa blinked.
Then shrugged.
“Well, perhaps that's for the best.”
Alexander went still.
“What?”
She smiled faintly.
“You said she was boring.”
Silence.
Vanessa continued.
“Now we can finally have the life we wanted.”
Alexander stared.
Then looked toward Oliver.
The little boy stood quietly beside the suitcases.
He looked confused.
Alexander's expression softened.
“Oliver.”
The boy looked up.
“Yes?”
“Would you like some breakfast?”
Oliver nodded.
Alexander called Mrs. Bell.
Then turned back to Vanessa.
“You're not moving in.”
Her face changed.
“What?”
He looked at her.
“This house belongs to Claire too.”
Vanessa laughed.
“Alexander.”
His expression hardened.
“Take your things.”
She stared.
“You can't be serious.”
He nodded.
May you like
“I am.”
For the first time, Vanessa realized the life she'd imagined was slipping away.
