Chapter 11 - THE PRICE OF BEING MRS. MORETTI

The divorce proceedings began in January.
Claire met Alexander in a private legal office.
It was the first time she'd seen him since the night he walked out to answer Vanessa's call.
He looked different.
Thinner.
Exhausted.
Older.
When he saw Claire, his expression changed.
“Claire.”
She nodded.
“Alexander.”
His eyes filled.
“You look well.”
She smiled faintly.
“I'm recovering.”
He swallowed.
“And the baby?”
Claire's expression tightened.
“She's healthy.”
Alexander closed his eyes.
Relief crossed his face.
Then he whispered:
“Is it a girl?”
Claire nodded.
“Yes.”
His voice broke.
“What's her name?”
“Hope.”
Alexander covered his mouth.
For a long moment, he couldn't speak.
Then he whispered:
“That's beautiful.”
Claire looked at him.
Then said quietly:
“I didn't come here to punish you.”
He nodded.
“I know.”
“I came because I want a divorce.”
Alexander's eyes filled.
But he didn't argue.

He simply nodded.
“Okay.”
