Chapter 8 - THE LETTER ISABELLA LEFT BEHIND

Vincent found the letter in an old jewelry box.

It was written in Isabella's handwriting.

The envelope was addressed to Matteo.

He stared at it for a long time.

Then called Clara.

“I found something.”

She looked at the envelope.

“From his mother?”

Vincent nodded.

“I don't know if I should give it to him.”

Clara studied him.

“Why not?”

“What if it hurts him?”

She smiled sadly.

“It probably will.”

Vincent looked down.

“But grief isn't something you can prevent by hiding love.”

He nodded.

That evening, Vincent sat beside Matteo.

He handed him the envelope.

“Your mother wrote this.”

Matteo stared.

“For me?”

Vincent nodded.

Matteo opened it carefully.

Inside was a letter Isabella had written before the accident.

She told Matteo how proud she was of him.

How much she loved his curiosity.

How she hoped he would always be kind.

And how she wanted him to know that being brave didn't mean never being afraid.

Matteo began crying.

Vincent held him.

Clara sat quietly nearby.

When Matteo finished, he looked up.

“Can we read it again tomorrow?”

May you like

Vincent smiled through tears.

“Every day, if you want.”
