Chapter 14 - THE FATHER WHO CHOSE HIS SON
Vincent's life changed dramatically.
He stepped away from criminal operations.
Cooperated with investigations.
And began restructuring the legitimate businesses that remained.
The process was difficult.
There were legal consequences.
Financial losses.
Former allies who turned against him.
But Vincent continued.
He wanted Matteo to grow up without inheriting a world built on fear.
He wanted his son to know him as a father.
Not a king.
One evening, Matteo asked:
“Daddy?”
Vincent looked up.
“Yes?”
“Are you still the boss?”
Vincent smiled faintly.
“Of some businesses.”
Matteo thought about that.
“Are you still scary?”
Vincent laughed.
“Sometimes.”
Matteo grinned.
“Not to me.”
Vincent's eyes filled.
He pulled his son into a hug.
“Good.”
Matteo smiled.
“Can Clara come over tomorrow?”
Vincent laughed.
“Absolutely.”
Matteo leaned back.
“Are you going to marry her?”
Vincent nearly choked.
“Matteo!”

And Vincent realized that the sound he'd once feared he'd never hear again had become the most beautiful part of his life.
