Chapter 11 - THE NIGHT THE HOUSE WENT DARK

Adrian learned that Vincent had discovered the truth.
He fled.
Then tried to reach the estate.
The security system detected an attempted breach near the service entrance during a storm.
Power flickered.
The house went dark.
Clara was with Matteo.
She heard the alarm.
Then footsteps.
She immediately followed the emergency plan they'd practiced.
She secured Matteo in his wheelchair.
Took his medication and emergency supplies.
And moved toward the designated safe room.
Matteo's hands shook.
“Clara?”
She looked at him.
“Yes?”
“Are we going to die?”
Her heart tightened.
“No one can promise what will happen.”
She knelt beside him.
“But we have a plan, and we're going to follow it.”
He nodded.
They reached the safe room.
Clara locked the door.
Then called Vincent.
He answered immediately.
“Clara?”
“We're safe.”
Vincent exhaled.
“Where?”
“Safe room two.”
“Stay there.”
Matteo took the phone.
“Daddy?”
Vincent's voice softened.
“Hey, buddy.”
“I'm scared.”
Vincent closed his eyes.
“I know.”
Matteo swallowed.
“Are you coming?”
“Yes.”
A pause.
Then Vincent said:
“And Matteo?”
“Yeah?”
“I'm proud of you.”
The boy began crying.
“Love you, Daddy.”
Vincent's voice broke.
“I love you too.”
Adrian was intercepted by responding security personnel and later taken into custody by authorities.
The immediate danger ended.
But the night changed Vincent forever.

He realized that no fortress could guarantee safety.
Only careful choices, trustworthy people, and a life no longer built around violence could give his son a real future.
