Chapter 9 - The Confession in Handcuffs

Molly stepped forward, holding a digital tablet connected to the ballroom’s massive presentation screens.

She tapped the screen.

The giant monitors behind the podium flickered to life, displaying:

The Live Raid Footage: High-definition video from the Calumet warehouse showing Toby Bell being rescued from the boiler room.

The Chemical Audit: Purchase orders signed by Julian Vance procuring the concentrated Aconitine and dimethyl sulfoxide precursors from Rotterdam.

The Recorded Audio: The intercepted midnight phone call in which Julian explicitly ordered the murder of seven-year-old Toby Bell.

The entire ballroom erupted in gasps of horror and fury. City council members leaped to their feet in disgust, backing away from the stage.

“Julian Vance,” Agent Cole declared, stepping behind the trembling executive. “You are under arrest for Attempted Capital Murder, Aggravated Kidnapping of a Minor, Corporate Racketeering, and Chemical Terrorism.”

Click. Snap.

The heavy steel handcuffs locked around Julian’s wrists with a sharp, resonant crack.

Julian completely lost his composure. He collapsed to his knees on the stage, screaming and sobbing into his tuxedo lapels: “Vincent! Please! It was a business dispute! We can settle this! I’ll give you the port contracts!”

Vincent looked down at the kneeling coward with absolute, unyielding detachment.

“You put poison on my plate, Julian,” Vincent said softly. “And you threatened an innocent child. In my world, that comes with a price no money can pay.”

As the federal marshals hauled Julian off the stage in front of twenty flashing news cameras, the ballroom erupted into a thunderous, standing ovation for Vincent and Molly.
