Chapter 5 - The Fortress on Gold Coast

================================================================================

Within twenty minutes, the convoy arrived at Vincent’s private estate on the Gold Coast of Chicago—an imposing stone fortress overlooking the dark, stormy waters of Lake Michigan.

Inside the private command suite on the top floor, four senior intelligence analysts sat behind wall-to-wall monitors tracking satellite feeds, wiretaps, and traffic cameras.

A private physician treated Molly’s arm with specialized antihistamine and corticosteroid injections, wrapping her burn in clean white gauze.

Vincent stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, having removed his suit jacket, wearing a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, revealing dark tactical tattoos running along his forearms.

“Here is the satellite overlay of the Calumet facility,” Grant reported, pointing to the main screen. “It’s a gated three-story chemical distribution warehouse. Thermal imaging shows five armed heat signatures on the second floor, and a smaller signature locked in the basement boiler room.”

“Toby,” Molly whispered, her heart aching for the terrified seven-year-old child.

“Julian Vance is currently at the Drake Hotel hosting a private charity gala,” Grant added. “He believes Arthur succeeded and that you will be declared dead by midnight.”

Vincent looked at Molly. The fierce, terrifying mob boss had receded, leaving behind a man who moved with surgical, righteous precision.

“Molly,” Vincent said softly. “If we raid that facility with standard tactical breaching charges, they might panic and harm the child.”

Molly stepped up to the holographic map table, studying the building schematics.

“The facility uses industrial nitrogen suppression systems in the chemical storage bays,” Molly noted, pointing to the roof ventilation intake. “If you inject an aerosolized fluorocarbon anesthetic into the secondary ventilation duct, you can incapacitate the guards on the second floor within ninety seconds without harming anyone in the lower basement.”

Vincent looked at his head of security, a slow, predatory grin spreading across his lips.

“Grant,” Vincent commanded. “Prepare the tactical units. We move on Calumet in twenty minutes.”
