Chapter 7 - The Traitor’s Safehouse Raid

While Julian was being cornered in Manhattan, a simultaneous tactical assault was underway at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Under the cover of night, Raymond Sterling—the sixty-two-year-old patriarch who had engineered the entire conspiracy—was boarding his 120-foot luxury yacht, The Golden Seahorse. Two titanium briefcases packed with $8 million in bearer bonds, forged Panamanian passports, and offshore encrypted ledgers sat on the salon table.

“Cast off the lines!” Raymond screamed at his captain. “Now! Before the harbor master flags our departure!”

Suddenly, the black waters of the East River erupted in blinding white light.

Two high-speed United States Coast Guard tactical interceptor boats boxed in the yacht from the port and starboard sides, their heavy 50-caliber gun mounts manned by tactical boarding teams. Above, a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter descended, its searchlights pinning Raymond against the teak deck.

“Vessel Golden Seahorse, this is the United States Coast Guard and Federal Bureau of Investigation!” a booming voice blared from the helicopter’s loudspeaker. “Cut your engines and surrender immediately! You are under armed interdiction!”

Raymond lunged for the throttle, attempting to ram the interceptor craft.

Coast Guard marksmen fired two precision disabling rounds directly into the yacht’s engine intake, shutting down the propulsion system in a cloud of white steam.

FBI SWAT operators breached the stern within ten seconds, throwing Raymond face-first onto the deck and snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.

“You can’t do this!” Raymond shrieked into the rain. “I am Raymond Sterling! I have diplomatic immunity through maritime treaties!”

Special Agent Miller picked up the open briefcases, smiling thinly. “Diplomatic immunity doesn't cover attempted first-degree murder of a military dependent and federal wire fraud, Mr. Sterling. Welcome to the rest of your life in federal prison.”
