Chapter 6 - THE SECRET BENEATH THE CATHEDRAL
The first clue came from an old ledger.
Norah found it among documents transferred from her father's office.
The ledger contained payments to several shipping companies.
Some were legitimate.
Others were not.
One name appeared repeatedly.
Carlo Costa.
Norah stared.
Then she found something stranger.
A payment made twenty years earlier.
To a construction company responsible for renovating Saint Augustine Cathedral.
The same cathedral where she'd married Leo.
She showed him.
Leo studied the document.
Then frowned.
“Why would Carlo pay for cathedral renovations?”
Norah shook her head.
“I don't know.”
They visited the cathedral the next afternoon.
The priest welcomed them.
He remembered Leo's father.
And Carlo.
Then he told them something unexpected.
“Your uncle paid for a private storage vault beneath the old sacristy.”
Leo went still.
“A vault?”
The priest nodded.
“It's been sealed for years.”

Norah looked at Leo.
For the first time, they realized the conspiracy might have begun long before their wedding.
