Chapter 10 - THE WOMAN WHO WALKED INTO THE TRAP

Carlo invited Norah to lunch.

She knew it was dangerous.

But she also knew he was getting desperate.

She told Leo immediately.

He wanted to refuse.

She insisted they discuss it.

In the end, they agreed on a plan involving legal authorities and a secure public location.

Norah arrived at the restaurant wearing a navy dress.

Carlo smiled.

“My dear.”

She sat.

“Carlo.”

He poured water.

“You've been asking questions.”

Norah smiled faintly.

“Have I?”

Carlo leaned closer.

“You should be careful.”

Norah looked at him.

“Is that a threat?”

He smiled.

“A warning.”

Norah took a breath.

“Did you order the attack at the docks?”

Carlo's smile vanished.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then he whispered:

“You have no idea what you're involved in.”

Norah looked at him.

“Then explain.”

Carlo stared.

And began talking.

By the time he realized investigators were nearby, he'd already revealed enough to support the case against him.

Norah walked out of the restaurant shaking.

Leo waited outside.

He looked at her.

“Are you okay?”

She nodded.

Then began crying.

Leo held her.

For the first time, Norah understood that courage didn't mean being unafraid.

It meant acting despite fear.
