Chapter 2 - The Luxury Convoy at Dawn

================================================================================

The black Mercedes-Maybach pulled away from the modest Ortega suburban home in Santa Fe, leaving Mauricio standing on the curb with dirty water dripping from his tailored tuxedo jacket.

Inside the climate-controlled leather interior, I leaned back against the headrest, took a sterile wet wipe from the console compartment, and gently dabbed the cut on my lip. The blood came away on the cotton, bright and crimson, but my pulse was completely steady.

Sitting in the front passenger seat was Rodrigo Navarro, Chief Legal Counsel and Managing Partner of Navarro & Associates, who had overseen my family’s legal empire for over fifteen years.

Rodrigo turned around, his sharp gaze falling on the swelling mark across my cheekbone. His aristocratic features hardened into stone.

“Madam Chairwoman,” Rodrigo said in a low, dangerous tone. “Who did this to you?”

“Mauricio,” I answered calmly, setting the stained wipe into a small trash receptacle. “Three hours after the civil ceremony.”

Rodrigo reached into his leather briefcase and pulled out a digital recorder and a secure tablet. “I have two forensic medical examiners on standby at the private medical pavilion in Polanco. We will document the contusion, the laceration on the oral mucosa, and the friction abrasions on your wrist before the sun rises.”

“Execute the full evidentiary protocol, Rodrigo,” I instructed, opening my laptop. “And prepare an emergency petition for an Annulment ab initio based on physical battery, fraudulent misrepresentation, and coercion.”

“And what of the commercial investments connected to the Ortega family?” Rodrigo asked, pulling up the corporate portfolio on his screen.

I looked out the tinted window as the city skyline approached. For two years, I had quietly directed millions of pesos in lucrative municipal logistics subcontracts to Ortega Construcciones—the struggling engineering firm owned by Mauricio’s father, Don Hector Ortega. I had ensured they received favorable credit terms, extended payment windows, and premium supplier rates, all through anonymous intermediary trusts so Mauricio would never feel intimidated by my financial superiority.

I had believed I was nurturing a partner’s family. In reality, I had been feeding a den of ungrateful vultures.

“Cut every line of credit,” I commanded softly. “Cancel the subcontracting agreements for the Reforma Commercial Tower project. Recall the equipment leases held by Horizonte Capital’s leasing subsidiaries. By 9:00 AM, I want every peso tied to the Ortega family frozen under judicial lien.”

Rodrigo bowed his head with absolute, predatory satisfaction.

“It will be done, Madam Chairwoman. By morning, Mauricio Ortega will discover that the woman he tried to make a maid owns the ground he walks on.”
