Chapter 5 - The Freeze on the Vance Accounts

At 6:00 AM on Monday morning, the financial reckoning hit the Vance household like a category-five hurricane.
In their four-acre luxury home in Richmond, Linda Vance was sitting at the marble kitchen island in her silk dressing gown, sipping fresh espresso, chatting on speakerphone with her daughter Dana.
“Dana, darling,” Linda said with a confident, dismissive chuckle. “Don't worry about Clara. Ben will have her under control by this afternoon. She’s too weak to leave. Her father is just a retired small-town attorney in Florida; they have no power to challenge us.”
Suddenly, the front door buzzer began chiming frantically.
Gary Vance rushed down the spiral staircase in his pajamas, holding his smartphone, his face mottled with sheer panic.
“Linda! Hang up the phone!” Gary shouted, his voice cracking. “All three of our corporate platinum cards just declined at the international wire clearinghouse! The bank says our operational credit lines have been frozen under a court order!”
Before Linda could speak, Dana shrieked through the speaker: “Mom! The lease on my Porsche just got flagged for immediate repossession! The dealership says the primary guarantor pulled the authorization!”
DING.
The master email terminal on the kitchen counter illuminated with three priority legal notices from Hayes & Associates Law:
Notice of Immediate Termination: Ben Vance removed as Chief Operating Officer of Vance Logistics Global for gross breach of fiduciary duty.
Notice of Acceleration of Debt: Immediate demand for full repayment of $1,240,000 in defaulted personal loan guarantees within forty-eight hours.
Emergency Eviction Writ: Notice of immediate property forfeiture on 442 Ridgeview Road, scheduled for execution by the Henrico County Sheriff’s Department at 8:30 AM.
Linda dropped her porcelain coffee cup. The hot liquid splashed across the marble floorboards, shattering the cup into a dozen pieces.
“What is happening?!” Linda screamed, pulling at her dyed hair. “Who is doing this to us?!”

The front gates of the estate swung open with a heavy mechanical groan.
Four black armored Suburbans and two marked sheriff’s cruisers pulled into the circular driveway.
