Chapter 4 - The Father's Midnight Arrival

By 1:00 AM, Julian Hayes had established a temporary legal command hub in the private consultation suite of the hospital.

Displayed across three portable encrypted monitors were the complete financial records of Ben, Linda, and Gary Vance.

For four years, Ben’s family had operated under the delusion that they were the masters of their domain. They believed Ben was a self-made executive at Vance Logistics Global and that their suburban country club lifestyle was funded by Gary’s brilliant commercial real estate investments.

In reality, ninety percent of their wealth had been secretly subsidized by my father.

When I married Ben three years ago, my father had insisted on testing Ben’s character without the blinding influence of our family’s true multi-billion-dollar empire. Dad had quietly provided the seed capital for Ben’s logistics firm through an anonymous corporate trust, purchased the mortgage on Gary and Linda’s four-acre estate, and underwritten their luxury credit lines.

“Look at these transaction logs,” Julian Hayes pointed out, clicking through the certified banking audits. “Gary Vance has been siphoning $18,000 monthly from the corporate operational reserves to cover his private gambling debts in Atlantic City. Linda Vance’s private boutique in Richmond has been running an operational deficit of $400,000, funded entirely through your father’s revocable credit facilities.”

“And what about the house deed?” I asked.

“The title to the Maplewood estate at 442 Ridgeview Road is held 100% by the Arthur Vance Heritage Foundation,” Julian smiled coldly. “Linda and Gary are merely tenants-at-will under a thirty-day revocable occupancy lease.”

My father closed his leather folio with a resounding snap.

“Julian,” Dad commanded.

“Yes, Judge?”

“Execute the immediate revocation of all corporate credit lines at 6:00 AM. Issue the formal thirty-day eviction writ backed by the county sheriff. And deliver the criminal indictment packet to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Major Crimes Bureau.”

Dad looked at me, resting a strong, protective hand on my shoulder.

“Get some sleep, Clara. In five hours, the sun rises on their destruction.”
