Chapter 6 - The Frozen Assets Shockwave

At 3:30 PM, Jason Bennett walked into the Michigan Avenue branch of Chase Private Client, planning to wire $150,000 from the architecture firm’s operational account to hire a high-profile crisis management firm.

He strutted up to the private banker’s desk, adjusting his designer blazer and tossing his black titanium card onto the mahogany surface.

“I need an immediate wire transfer to Sterling-Cross Public Relations,” Jason commanded arrogantly.

The banker typed on his keyboard. His brow furrowed. He swiped the card again. A bright red error dialogue flashed across the monitor:

ACCOUNT RESTRICTED: JUDICIAL RESTRAINING ORDER — COOK COUNTY CASE #2026-D-8841.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Bennett,” the banker said with polite detachment. “All personal, corporate, and trust accounts linked to your Social Security number and Bennett & Vance LLC have been frozen pursuant to an emergency asset protection injunction.”

Jason’s face turned pale. “What? That’s impossible! I am the managing partner!”

“The injunction was filed by Victoria Sterling on behalf of primary copyright holder and equity partner Emily Vance,” the banker explained, handing him a stamped copy of the court decree. “Furthermore, your corporate credit cards, credit lines, and the overdraft facility on the Gold Coast condo have been suspended.”

Before Jason could scream at the banker, his phone rang. It was his mother, Diane, calling from her penthouse.

Diane was hyperventilating, her voice shrill with blind panic.

“Jason! My cards are declining at the pharmacy! The concierge downstairs told me the building management received a notice of lis pendens on my condo! They say the mortgage was paid with stolen trust money! What is happening?!”

“Mom, calm down—”

“Do something, you useless boy!” Diane shrieked into his ear. “You promised me Emily was powerless! Fix this!”

As Jason stood paralyzed in the marble bank lobby, two Cook County Sheriff deputies stepped through the revolving doors, walking directly toward him with a set of legal documents.

“Jason Bennett?” Deputy Miller asked.

May you like

“Yes...” Jason stammered, his voice trembling.

“You are formally served with an Emergency Restraining Order and a Grand Jury Subpoena for Commercial Embezzlement. Step away from the counter and keep your hands visible.”
