Chapter 6 - The Mother-in-Law’s Country Club Meltdown

While Julian executed the legal freeze on all domestic accounts linked to the Vance family, Jolene Vance was attempting to maintain her social illusions in Westchester.

At 11:30 AM, Jolene arrived at the exclusive Westchester Hills Country Club in a borrowed taxi, wearing a silk dress she had hidden in her purse, planning to host her monthly charity committee luncheon.

She strode into the grand dining room, nodding haughtily to the socialite members seated around the white-linen tables.

“Good morning, ladies,” Jolene purred, taking her seat at the head of the committee table. “I apologize for my slight delay. My driver had an emergency with the town car.”

Before she could pick up her menu, the club’s General Manager, Arthur Sterling (no relation, a seasoned hospitality director), walked up to the table accompanied by two private security officers.

“Mrs. Vance,” Arthur said in a low, firm voice that carried across the quiet dining room.

Jolene frowned, waving her hand. “Arthur, bring us a bottle of Dom Pérignon immediately. We are celebrating my son’s new corporate acquisition.”

“I’m afraid there will be no champagne, Mrs. Vance,” Arthur stated, holding out an official legal notification. “At 9:00 AM this morning, the club received a judicial attachment order freezing your membership account due to defaulted initiation fees and active bank fraud litigation.”

Gasps rippled across the surrounding tables.

The committee ladies pulled their chairs back, looking at Jolene with sudden, icy disgust.

“What?!” Jolene shrieked, jumping to her feet. “This is outrageous! My son Vance is an executive director! I pay fifty thousand dollars a year for this table!”

“The funds for your membership dues originated from an embezzled corporate account belonging to Sloan Sterling,” Arthur replied smoothly. “Your membership has been terminated with cause by the board of governors. Security will escort you off the club property immediately.”

“Take your hands off me!” Jolene screamed as two guards firmly guided her by the elbows toward the service exit, her designer heels slipping on the polished parquet floor. “Do you know who I am?! I am Jolene Vance!”

Across the dining room, phones were raised, filming every second of her humiliating expulsion as the high-society status she had spent thirty years manufacturing dissolved into thin air.
