Chapter 6 - THE COMPANY HE THOUGHT WAS HIS

Lucas worked for Walker Development Group.

The company had been founded by his father.

After his father's retirement, Lucas became CEO.

He loved the title.

The office.

The power.

But there was something Lucas often forgot.

My father had invested in the company during a financial crisis years earlier.

The investment had been structured through a family trust.

Eleanor reviewed the trust documents.

Then looked at me.

“Claire, do you know how much equity your family owns?”

I hesitated.

“Not exactly.”

She showed me the ownership schedule.

My stomach tightened.

The trust held a significant minority stake.

Enough to give me important shareholder rights.

I stared.

“Lucas knows?”

Eleanor hesitated.

“He should.”

I looked down.

For years, Lucas had treated me like a wife who didn't understand business.

He had never bothered to ask what my family had contributed.

Now I realized he might have underestimated more than my intelligence.
