Chapter 8 - THE NIGHT ELIZA DISAPPEARED

Eliza was twenty-four weeks pregnant when the first threat arrived.
A white envelope appeared beneath Paige's front door.
Inside was a photograph of Eliza leaving her doctor's office.
On the back were four words.
TELL DOMINIC TO STOP.
Eliza's hands began shaking.
Paige called the police.
Then Margaret Ellis.
Within hours, arrangements were made for Eliza to stay somewhere safer while investigators examined the threat.
Eliza packed a small bag.
She looked toward the nursery she'd begun preparing.
A white crib.
Soft yellow curtains.
A basket of tiny clothes.
She swallowed.
“I don't want to leave.”
Paige touched her shoulder.
“I know.”
Eliza looked down at her stomach.
Then nodded.
“But I will.”
That night, Eliza moved to a protected location.
Dominic was informed through legal counsel that she was safe but would not be receiving visitors.
He sat alone in his office.
