Chapter 11 - THE CHILD WHO CHANGED HIS WORLD

Eliza went into labor earlier than expected.

She was thirty-five weeks pregnant.

Paige drove her to the hospital.

The medical team monitored her closely.

Eliza was frightened.

But she wasn't alone.

Paige held her hand.

A nurse explained each step.

And after several difficult hours, a small cry filled the delivery room.

Eliza began sobbing.

A girl.

Tiny.

Beautiful.

Alive.

The nurse placed the baby against Eliza's chest when it was safe.

Eliza looked down.

Her daughter had dark hair.

A tiny nose.

And the most determined expression she'd ever seen.

“Hello, sweetheart,” Eliza whispered.

The baby moved her hand.

Eliza laughed through tears.

“I'm your mommy.”

She kissed her daughter's forehead.

“And I've been waiting for you for a very long time.”

Dominic received the news through Margaret Ellis.

His daughter had been born.

Her name was Amelia.

He sat motionless.

“A girl?”

“Yes.”

“Is she healthy?”

“She is receiving appropriate care because she arrived early.”

Dominic swallowed.

“And Eliza?”

“Recovering.”

He closed his eyes.

“Thank you.”

After the call ended, Dominic began crying.

Not because he'd been excluded.

Because his daughter had entered the world.

And he finally understood that fatherhood would require something far greater than his name.
