Chapter 8 - THE NIGHT THEY TRIED TO DESTROY THE EVIDENCE
The attempt happened at 2:16 a.m.
A security alert reached Gabriel's office.
Someone had tried to access archived financial records stored on an internal server.
Several files were marked for deletion.
The system blocked the attempt.
Gabriel called me immediately.
“Evelyn.”
I sat upright.
“What happened?”
“Someone tried to remove records connected to the disputed transfers.”
My heart pounded.
“Did they succeed?”
“No.”
I exhaled.
Gabriel continued.
“We preserved the access logs.”
The account used for the attempt belonged to a senior executive who reported directly to Nathaniel.
The discovery changed the investigation.
What had begun as a question about questionable transfers now involved possible evidence tampering.
Gabriel and the legal team notified the appropriate authorities.
I sat on the edge of my bed after the call.
