Chapter 9 - THE BROTHER WHO BETRAYED THE FAMILY

Silas stared at the screen.

“Who?”

Evelyn hesitated.

Then said:

“Your brother.”

Silas felt cold.

“Damian?”

She nodded.

Damian Costello was younger than Silas by six years.

Charming.

Ambitious.

Restless.

He had always resented living in Silas's shadow.

Evelyn continued.

“Damian introduced Victor to the clinic investors.”

Silas stared.

“Why?”

She swallowed.

“Money.”

The medical group had promised Damian a significant stake in a new investment vehicle.

In exchange, he would help secure access to the Costello logistics network.

Silas felt sick.

“He used Leo.”

Evelyn nodded.

“He knew you would do anything for your son,” she said.

Silas closed his eyes.

For years, he'd believed loyalty was the one thing money couldn't buy.

Now he understood how wrong he'd been.

Evelyn continued.

“Damian helped Victor isolate me.”

Silas looked up.

“How?”

“They intercepted messages. Changed travel plans. Threatened people who tried to help.”

She swallowed.

“I escaped before they could force me into a controlled facility.”

Silas stared.

“Why didn't you call me?”

Evelyn's eyes filled.

“I tried.”

Silence.

She continued.

“Every time I reached out, someone connected to Victor appeared.”

Silas felt rage rise.

But he forced himself to breathe.

He looked toward Leo.

The boy was drawing quietly beside Khloe.

Silas swallowed.

“What happens now?”

Evelyn looked at him.

“We tell the truth.”

Silas nodded.

“Yes.”

Then she added:

“And we protect Leo without making him afraid of the world.”

Silas looked toward his son.

He nodded again.

For the first time, he wasn't thinking about revenge.

He was thinking about what kind of father he wanted to become.
