Chapter 7 - The Black Ledger of Silicon Crest

Ryan watched in sheer panic as federal agents loaded the encrypted mainframes of Crestline Systems into the military transport vehicle.
"You can't seize those servers!" Ryan screamed, lunging forward. "Those are proprietary assets of Crestline Systems! I am the majority shareholder!"
In one swift, fluid motion, two Military Police officers grabbed Ryan’s arms, swept his legs, and pinned him facedown against the hood of his own Porsche Cayenne. The cold metal bit into his cheek as the heavy steel cuffs clicked tightly around his wrists.
"Ryan Vance, you are under arrest pursuant to Article 119 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and Title 18 United States Code," Agent Henderson announced, reciting his Miranda rights into his ear.
General Sterling walked over and looked down at Ryan’s pinned face.
"You thought you were a tech mastermind, Ryan," Sterling said softly. "You assumed that because Claire chose to marry you and build a quiet civilian life after years of high-risk military service, she was weak. You thought you could erase her name from the government patents, funnel her defense grants to your mother’s vanity projects, and treat her like a live-in maid."
Sterling pulled a laminated file from his briefcase.
"Claire uncovered your embezzlement seven months ago. When she noticed unauthorized routing numbers on the Pentagon escrow accounts, she didn't confront you. She followed standard military counter-intelligence protocol. She built a shadow forensic ledger that mirrored every fraudulent wire transfer directly to the Pentagon’s Cyber Warfare Fraud Unit."
Ryan’s eyes widened in horror. ‘Claire knew? The entire time... she knew?’
"She gave you every opportunity to be an honorable husband and father," Sterling continued. "She prayed that the birth of your child would awaken whatever shred of decency you had left. But on Friday night, when you looked at her dying on the floor and walked out to eat birthday cake, you sealed your own fate."
"General, please!" Ryan sobbed, tears and sweat smearing against the hood of his car. "I made a mistake! I panicked! Let me see Claire! Let me hold my daughter! I’ll give back every penny! I’ll sign whatever you want!"

"You will never lay eyes on my niece or her child ever again," Sterling said with absolute finality. "Take him away."
The MPs hauled Ryan to his feet and threw him into the back of the armored tactical carrier. As the heavy steel doors slammed shut, Ryan looked through the small reinforced window to see his mother weeping on the sidewalk as agents seized her luxury car.
