Chapter 18 - JULIAN CHOOSES A SIDE

The final financial case required Julian to decide whether to cooperate fully against Victoria.

For weeks he resisted.

Not because he believed she was innocent.

Because she was his mother.

Ethan finally said:

“She can be our mother and still be responsible.”

Simple.

Julian testified.

He explained the E Plan.

The debt.

The payroll draft.

Victoria’s instructions.

Then the prosecutor asked:

“Did your mother tell you to throw a cleaning rag at Elena?”

“No.”

“Did she tell you to threaten food?”

“No.”

“Who made those decisions?”

Julian closed his eyes.

“I did.”

That was the moment I stopped hating him.

Not forgave everything.

Not loved him again.

Stopped hating.

Accountability had finally reached the correct address.

Julian did not hide behind Victoria.

Victoria did not get to absorb his guilt merely because she had influenced him.
