Chapter 10 - MY SIGNATURE ON A DOCUMENT I NEVER SAW

The forged payroll email was only the beginning.
Investigators found a notarized document bearing my signature.
POST-MARITAL FINANCIAL AUTHORIZATION
I had never seen it.
It granted Julian broad authority to communicate with lenders concerning joint obligations.
The signature looked convincing.
The notary stamp belonged to Graham Lyle, Julian’s longtime friend.
Graham initially claimed I signed it during wedding paperwork.
Then security video from the hotel showed I was taking photographs with my bridesmaids at the precise timestamp listed on the notarization.
Graham changed his story.
Badly.
Eventually he admitted Victoria brought him the document already signed.
He notarized without witnessing.
Crime.
Small compared with some things.
Devastating anyway.
The prosecution now had:
Forgery.
Attempted financial fraud.
Fraudulent lending documents.
Trust misconduct.
And evidence of a coordinated plan.
Julian’s attorney wanted settlement.
Annulment.
No claim on my money.
No public statements.
No cooperation beyond lawful subpoena.
Rachel asked:
“What do you want?”
The question surprised me.
For weeks everyone had been asking what could be proven.
Not what I wanted.
“I want out.”
“Anything else?”
“I want my name removed from everything.”
“Anything else?”
I thought.
“I want the record to show I never authorized those applications.”
“Good.”
Then:
“Do you need Julian punished?”
I considered it.
“No.”
That answer surprised me too.
“I need him accountable.”
Different.
Punishment could become obsession.

Accountability required truth.
