Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Purge

On Thursday morning at 10:00 AM, the 45th-floor boardroom of Bolaro Global Holdings overlooking the Chicago River was convened for an extraordinary shareholder assembly.
The twelve senior directors and maritime logistics partners sat in tense silence around the fifty-foot glass table.
Lorenzo walked into the room dressed in a bespoke charcoal suit, flanked by federal prosecutors and forensic auditors. He did not sit at the head of the table; he stood tall, placing a leather portfolio on the glass.
“Gentlemen,” Lorenzo announced, his voice carrying effortlessly across the room. “As of 8:00 AM this morning, all assets connected to the Vance syndicate and Dr. Victor Crane have been permanently seized by the United States Department of Justice.”
The directors turned white as paper.
“Furthermore,” Lorenzo continued, “I am officially resigning from all commercial maritime operations. Bolaro Global is transitioning into a private non-profit entity: the Sofia & Nico Bolaro Pediatric Health & Safety Foundation.”
A collective gasp rippled across the room.
Lorenzo turned his gaze toward me, standing near the doorway holding eight-month-old Nico in a soft blue cashmere blanket.

“And it is my greatest honor to introduce the Chief Executive Director of our new medical endowment—Miss Maya Ellis.”
The board rose in a unanimous, thunderous standing ovation as Nico giggled happily in my arms, reaching his small hands toward his father.
