Chapter 4 - The Antidote in the Nursery

“Take Dr. Crane down to the subterranean cellar,” Lorenzo ordered, his voice echoing with absolute authority. “Tie him to the iron chair. Do not allow him to sleep.”

Two armed guards seized Crane beneath his arms, dragging the screaming physician across the floor. “Lorenzo! I was forced! Gia had leverage on my medical license! Don't do this!”

The heavy doors slammed shut, cutting off Crane’s cries.

Gia stood pinned against the mahogany wardrobe, her silk robe stained with formula, her hands trembling as Marco placed the contents of the lockbox onto the changing table.

Spread out beneath the nursery lamp were three notarized legal dossiers:

The Medical Power of Attorney: A forged declaration designating Gia Vance as sole legal guardian of Nico Bolaro in the event of Lorenzo’s incarceration or incapacitation.

The Offshore Trust Dissolution: A contract diverting $250 million from Sofia’s family shipping trust into an anonymous entity registered in the Cayman Islands under Gia’s maiden name.

The Toxicology Procurement Invoices: Electronic receipts showing four shipments of pharmaceutical-grade Atropine and Digoxin purchased from an unlicensed bio-chemical distributor in Montreal, paid with Gia’s private credit card.

Lorenzo looked at the documents, his face turning an ashen shade of fury.

“You wanted my son declared permanently incapacitated,” Lorenzo said, piecing together the monstrous plot. “Then you were going to poison me.”

Gia choked back a sob, looking up at him with wild, bloodshot eyes. “Sofia never deserved you, Lorenzo! She was weak! She wanted you to give up your empire, to go legitimate, to sell the ports! I spent ten years helping you build this city! I was the one who stood by you during the federal trials!”

She stepped forward, reaching out a trembling hand. “With Nico under my care, we could have had everything! We could have ruled this city together!”

Lorenzo looked down at her with complete, unyielding disgust.

“Sofia gave her life to bring an angel into this world,” Lorenzo said softly. “You are nothing more than a parasite who crawled into my home.”

He signaled Marco.

“Take her to the east holding suite. Call United States Attorney Miller. Tell her that the Bolaro family has evidence of interstate racketeering, premeditated attempted murder of a minor, and federal wire fraud ready for immediate handover.”

Gia screamed, fighting against the guards as they secured her wrists in steel cuffs: “Lorenzo! You can't involve the feds! It will expose your own companies!”

Lorenzo looked at his sleeping son.

“I would burn every company I own to the ground to keep my boy safe,” Lorenzo said. “Get her out of my sight.”
